SALEM, Mass. -- Salem State women's lacrosse welcomed the Lasers of Lasell University for their first home contest of the season tonight. A hat trick from Teresa Kessner (Brentwood, N.Y.) would lift the Lasers over the Vikings by a score of 5-3, dropping Salem to 0-2 on the young season.

Megan Parthum (Marblehead, Mass.), Jenna Wells (Revere, Mass.), and Kenzie Currey (Bel Air, Md.) all scored a goal in tonight's game with Currey also scooping up six ground balls. Nora Bradley (Haddon Township, N.J.) turned away eight shots in the effort.

For the Lasers, Kessner added one helper to go with her three goals while Kaitlin Bedell (Londonderry, N.H.) chipped in with two goals and one assist. Defensively, Joy Sayah (Rockland, Mass.) turned away 21 shots in the victory.

Kessner notched her first goal of the game less than two minutes into the action before finding Bedell who would give the Lasers the 2-0 edge at the 6:21 mark in the first. Badell would tack on another goal to give her squad the 3-0 lead to head into the second quarter.

A quiet second quarter from both squads would end in a Viking goal when Kaia Hollingsworth (Methuen, Mass.)  found Parthum who was able to sneak one by Sayah to make it a 3-1 game at the break.

After the game Parthum talked about the goal. "I definitely think that it brought the momentum up they're goalie was wicked good today…"

A defensive stalemate ensued for the majority of the third quarter with Sayah turning away four shots for the Lasers and Bradley stopping two for the Vikings before Kessner found the back of the net at the 3:39 mark to give her team the 4-1 advantage.  With 23 seconds to play in the third Wells would answer by firing a shot past Sayah to cut the Lasers' lead in half (4-2) and send the game to the final 15 minutes of action.

Just five minutes into the fourth, the Vikings found some momentum after Currey made it a one-goal but two minutes later Kessner would secure her hat trick to give her team the 5-3 lead which would hold over the final seven minutes to give the Lasers the victory on the road.

The Vikings are looking to bounce back this Saturday, March 9 when they travel to New London, New Hampshire to take on the Chargers of Colby-Sawyer College for a 1p.m. start.
