Three Vikings Earn All-MASCAC Honors

SALEM, Mass. -- Liz Zaiter (Peabody, Mass.), Ernidia Goncalves (Everett,Mass.) and Abuk Teng (Manchester, N.H.) were recognized by the MASCAC on Wednesday as the league announced the 2022-23 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Basketball All-Conference Teams as voted on by the league's seven coaches. 

Zaiter, who was a first team selection a year ago, earned first team honors this season. She was the Vikings' leading scorer (15.8 ppg), which ranked 5th in the league and her (8.6 rpg) placed her in the top-four in the MASCAC. The senior ranked in the top-10 in blocks (23), field goal percentage (44.2) and field goals (142). Zaiter topped the 1,000th career-point total this year, in just her third season, producing 348 points. 

Goncalves was named the 2022-23 MASCAC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Year. The freshman averaged 12.4 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. She ended the regular season first in offensive rebounds (123) and blocks (49) while collecting 208 total rebounds, 49 steals and 21 assists. This honor is the first Rookie of the Year accolade for the Vikings since the 1999-2000 season. 

Teng, had a breakout second season for the Vikings, starting in all 26 games while producing a solid 12.7 ppg scoring average - 7th best in the MASCAC and 6.7 rpg - 7th best in the MASCAC. The sophomore ranked 7th overall in total rebounding (175) and 4th in offensive rebounding (79) and was second on the team with 329 total points. 

The Bridgewater State duo of Kylie Grassi and Sophia Gaucher were named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player and Defensive Player of the Year. 

After guiding the Bears to a 10-2 record and their first conference title in nine years, Bridgett Casey of Bridgewater State was named the 2022-23 BSN Sports Coach of the Year as voted on by her peers. 
 
Joining Grassi and Gaucher on the All-Conference First Team were Katty Haidul and Flannery O'Connor of Framingham State, Zaiter of Salem State and Jordan Grant of Westfield State. 
 
Landing a spot on the Second Team All-Conference were Caroline Tripp of Bridgewater State, Gwendolyn Carpenter of Framingham State, Teng of Salem State, Olivia Hadla of Westfield State and Erin Gallella of Worcester State.
