Rhode Island College Defeats Salem State 78-47

SALEM, Mass. - Wilcia McBorrough (Providence, RI) finished with 16 points (FG 7-10) and seven rebounds to lead the Rhode Island College Anchorwomen to a 78-47 victory over the Salem State Vikings at Twohig Gymnasium on Wednesday night. The Anchorwomen are now 1-0 while Salem State falls to 1-1 on the year.

In the first quarter, the Anchorwomen opened up the game going on an 8-0 run, doing most of their damage in the post. In the second quarter, Brooke Young (West Warwick, RI) drilled a three-pointer to extend Rhode Island College's largest lead, 32-10 forcing a Vikings' timeout.  

The Anchorwomen's lead grew to 30 points when Abby Phelan (Norton, Mass.) drained a three.

At the half, RIC owned a 42-12 advantage. McBorrough led the half in points with 10 (FG 5-6). Rhode Island College scored 20 points off the Vikings' 14 turnovers. Salem State struggled from the floor shooting 13.6% (FG 3-22) while the Anchorwomen shot 59.4% (FG 19-32).

In the second half, the Vikings were more efficient offensively, 46.4% (FG 13-28), but the deficit was too large.

Jordyn Gauvin (Fall River, Mass.) scored 15 points (FG 5-10) and Young added 11 points (FG 3-8) for the Anchorwomen.

Courtney Paschal (Waltham, Mass.) posted 13 points (FG 4-9, 3PT 2-4) and seven rebounds for the Vikings.
