Salem State Posts Season-High 24 Goals in Win Over MCLA

SALEM, Mass. -- Landon Rice and Matthew Lindstrom notched four goals apiece as Salem State posted a season-high 24 goals in a 24-4 win over MCLA on Wednesday evening at Alumni Field. The Vikings improve to 3-1 while the Trailblazers remain winless at 0-3.
Fisher Gadbois and Grady Smith combined for six goals and three assists while Cameron Smith and Cameron Collins each scored a pair of goals with an assist. Connor Vittands added a goal and a game-high four assists.
Neal Brierley led MCLA with two goals while Anthony Andolina and Ty Roadcap each found the the back of the net once.
How it Happened
- Grady Smith opened the scoring at the 10:52 mark of the first quarter as Salem State raced out to a 5-0 lead, outshooting MCLA 22-5 in the first quarter.
- Gadbois and Cameron Smith added their second goals of the game early in the second quarter to stake the Vikings to a 7-0 lead.
- Back-to-back goals by Gadbois and Rice their third of the game, pushed the lead to 14-0 in the second.
- Matthew Lindstrom scored Salem State's 15th unanswered goal before Anthony Andolina broke the drought for the Trailblazers with a score with :46 seconds remaining before halftime.
- Four more goals to open the third made the score 19-1 in favor of the Vikings. Neal Brierley added MCLA's second goal of the game at the 6:50 mark before Arthur Chiaradonna, Grady Smith and Lindstrom answered for Salem State, giving them a 22-2 lead after three.
- Thw two teams exchanged two scores each in the fourth with Lindstrom and John Parece credited with goals for the Vikings and Brierley and Roadcap for the Trailblazers.
- Ryan Cohen (1-1) earned the win in net making five saves. Jack Zenger made four saves against six shots in relief in the fourth.
- Hayden Schuler (0-2) took the loss, allowing 18 goals in 40 attempts.
- The Vikings racked up 64 shots to 19 for MCLA.
