Wellesley Wins 3-0 Over Salem State

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley toppled Salem State in straight sets (25-12, 25-15, 25-9) on Saturday afternoon at Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse. The Blue are now 11-8 overall while the Vikings slide to 2-22.

How it Happened: 

  • Kate Giang , Else Kunze-Hoeg and Rachel Xu had three kills apiece, while the team combined for .350 hitting. Wellesley also used strong serving to create separation with six aces in the set. Bella Coccia posted four kills for Salem State in the 25-12 set one loss.   
  • Wellesley raced out to a 6-1 lead in the second, the Vikings rallied by scoring the next five points to even the score. The teams traded the next several points, resulting in six ties, before Wellesley went in front 15-12. The Blue held on to the lead for the remainder of the set and won 25-15. Caroline Meyer tallied six of the Blue's 14 kills in the set and hit. 417.
  • The Blue gained momentum in a convincing 25-9 third set. The team recorded 14 kills and a .385 hitting percentage. Wellesley finished the match with 38 kills and 14 aces.
  Inside the Numbers:
  • Wellesley sophomore Caroline Meyer hit .438 with eight kills to lead the Blue.
  • Kunze-Hoeg also had eight kills to go with 16 assists, seven digs and four aces.
  • Bella Coccia (Westfield, Mass.) led Salem State with six kills
  • Sabina Kamanda and junior Presley Shairs added three kills apiece. Keira Doherty picked up eight digs.
