SALEM, Mass. -- Salem State hosted Norwich and the University of New England in a tri-meet on Saturday afternoon at Twohig Gymnasium. The Vikings came all the way back from a 2-0 deficit in the first match of the day and stunned Norwich, winning the final set 16-14. The Nor'easters swept all three matches in the final contest of the day, defeating Salem State, 25-15, 25-18, 25-18. The Vikings are now 2-3 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Norwich):

Norwich rolled to a 25-14 win in set one. The Cadets raced out to a comfortable 14-8 lead after a kill by Autumn Parkhurst. Leading 18-12, the Cades scored seven of the final nine points with the final two points coming off consecutive aces by Parkhurst.
Presley Shairs and Ariana Barrows combined for eight kills in set two for Salem State, but the Cadets, held off Salem State after the Vikings had tied the match after trailing by four, 18-14. Tied at 25-all, Norwich scored the final two points on a kill by Giovanna Fruci and an attack error by Salem State.

The Vikings controlled play in set three, winning easily, 25-9. Shairs had five kills in the set and Kailey Roche led the defensive effort with nine digs.
- Both teams struggled offensively in set four, but Salem State pulled out the victory as Shairs produced five aces while Norwich manged to hit just -.077.

The Vikings came away with a 16-14 win in set five, holding off the Cadets after training 12-8. The Vikings ended the set on a 7-2 run.

Shairs finished with 17 kills, seven digs, six aces and two blocks.

Roche had a season-high 28 digs.

Celia Carbone had a match-high 28 assists.
- Ariana Barrows contributed 11 kills and nine digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED (University of New England):

The University of New England jumped out to a 10-7 early lead before building an insurmountable 21-14 advantage. Ellijah Hanley led the charge with four kills.

Set two was dominated by the Nor'easters' attack as they racked up 13 kills behind a combined nine from Hanley and Hannah Nowell in the seven-point win.

The University of New England built a 12-4 lead in set three despite six service errors. Hanley produced five kills in the set, which included three of the final five points for the Nor'easters
