UMass Boston Defeats Salem State 3-0

SALEM, Mass. -- Salem State was defeated by UMass Boston, 3-0 in the home opener for the Vikings on Wednesday evening. The Beacons won 25-12, 25-14, 25-12 to improve to 3-1 on the year. The Vikings slide to 1-2.

UMass Boston cruised to a set one win as Dylan Wertzberger and Mya Perron combined for seven kills. The Beacons closed the set on an 11-5 run.

Leading 8-5 in the second set, UMass Boston slowly pulled away for an 11-point victory. Mary Matthews led both teams with 5 digs while Kesmyn Alves was credited with a block and two block assists.

UMass Boston opened up an early 6-1 lead and built a 16-7 advantage following consecutive aces by Kelsey Cruz. The Beacons hit .250% for the set to complete the three-game sweep.

Bella Coccia led the Vikings with six kills and two block assists.

Celia Carbone contributed eight assists and Kailey Roche 13 digs.

Sabina Kamanda finished with nine digs for Salem State.
