Falcons Blank Vikings 3-0

BROOKLINE, Mass. – Fisher swept Salem State 3-0 on Tuesday evening at Pappas Gymnasium. The Falcons even their record at 5-5 while the Vikings slip to 3-3.

Fisher broke open a close first set, outscoring Salem State, 11-2 led by five kills from Alicia Tkach, including three straight to take a 20-10 lead. In front 21-15, Lilliana Figueroa scored three of the final four points, notching three kills as the Falcons took set one, 25-15. The Vikings held a 7-5 lead in set two, after consecutive attack errors by Tkach. Fisher regained the lead, 14-13 after Tkach recorded her eighth kill of the match. A service ace by Paola Velazquez extended the margin to 18-15 before the Vikings rallied to draw to within 23-22. However, a kill by Figueroa and an attack error by Salem State secured the set for the Flacons 25-22.

Fisher cemented the win with a 25-12 victory in set three. Leading 10-9, the Falcons went on an 11-2 run highlighted by four aces from Velazquez. The Vikings struggled in the final set, hitting just .120 while two aces by Emily Jenter ended the set and match.

Tkach and Figueroa combined for 25 kills while Velazquez had 28 assists, eight digs and five aces. Edsyl Irizarry finished with 18 digs for Fisher.

Presley Shairs had nine kills and two solo blocks for the Vikings. Kailey Roche registered a match-high 21 digs to go with three aces. Celia Carbone led Salem State with 18 assists while compiling seven digs.
