Salem State Cruises Past Lesley 3-0

SALEM, Mass. -- Salem State jumped out to a 14-4 first set lead and never looked back as the Vikings easily took care of Lesley, 3-0 in women's volleyball action at Twohig Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. The Vikings improve to 3-1 on the year while the Lynx go to 0-2.

Mackenzie Hubert reeled off 11 straight points for Salem State, as the Vikings took a commanding 12-0 lead in the first set. Kayla Sullivan registered three aces, allowing the lead to grow to  21-4. The Lynx hit -.167 in the first set and compiled just three kills. The Vikings continued to dominate in the second set, racing out to a large lead thanks to a pair of kills by Haley Philips and three aces from Celia Carbone. Salem State scored the final 11 points as Lesley continued to struggle on defense. Four aces by Presley Shairs in set three helped the Vikings secure the match. Leading 14-3, Salem State once again controlled play, scoring the final five points to close the set and match.

Philips and Shairs led the attack, combining for 11 kills. Carbone finished with a match-high 15 assists to go with five aces and five digs. Mackenzie Hubert chipped in with four aces and four digs and Sullivan contributed five aces and a pair of digs.
