Salem State Splits At Northern Vermont Tri-Meet

JOHNSON, Vermont -- Salem State split a pair of matches at Northern Vermont-Johnson on Saturday at Carter Gymnasium. The Badgers defeated the Vikings (25-14, 25-22, 14-25, 25-23) in the opening match while Salem State defeated Curry (19-25, 26-24, 25-20, 19-25, 15-11). The Vikings are now 2-6 on the year.

Max Ludlow had seven service aces in the first set for the Badgers in their 25-14 win. Northern Vermont-Johnson opened an 18-9 lead as Salem State committed eight errors in the 11-point loss. The Badgers hit .257 in set two, tallying 13 kills with five coming from Christina Betham. The Vikings won set three, 25-14, taking an early 12-3 lead as Presley Shairs had four kills during the run. The Badgers cemented the win with a 25-23 victory in set four. Five straight points off the serve of Ludlow put Northern Vermont-Johnson on top 15-14 as the Badgers were able to hold off a late rally by Salem State to secure the two-point win.

Betham finished with a game-high 17 kills, with 10 digs and three blocks. Ludlow had eight kills, 11 aces and 13 digs while Mason Lores chipped in with six kills, 26 assists and six digs. Shairs led the Vikings with 10 kills and added five digs and four blocks. Eva Haralabatos had 16 assists and eight digs. Gracie Dailey added three kills and a team-high 11 digs for Salem State.

Shairs led the attack for the Vikings in their five-set win over the Colonels. The freshman notched seven kills and nine digs while Haralabatos had five aces, 22 assists and 14 digs. Abigail O'Connor topped Salem State with eight kills while contributing five digs. Kailey Roche turned in three aces and a match-high 23 digs. Lauren Guzman led Curry with 18 kills, while freshman Sonja Matheson turned in 15. Both Colonels turned in double-doubles on the day with Matheson posting 15 digs and Guzman 12. Junior libero Avia Fraine was Curry's leader defensively with 19 digs.
