QUICNY, Mass. – Salem State opened the 2021 season with a 3-0 loss to the Eastern Nazarene Lions on Wednesday evening. The Lions won 25-19, 25-16 and  25-21 to sweep the Vikings.

Genevieve Kempster (Hopedale, Mass.) led Salem State with nine kills and eight digs. Newcomer Eva Haralabatos  (Melrose, Mass.) contributed 18 assists. Michelle Le (Woburn, Mass.) added 10 digs off the bench.

Telma Zelaya (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) and Eliana Baran (Beaumont, Calif.) led Eastern Nazarene with nine kills each. Ruth Aguilar (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) added 26 assists while Baran and Jessica Caldwell (Quincy, Mass.) added six digs apiece.
