Colby Sawyer Outlasts Salem State on Think Pink Night

SALEM, Mass. – The Colby-Sawyer Chargers outlasted the Salem State Vikings in five sets on "Think Pink" night at Twohig Gymnasium. Anna Allen (Los Angeles, Calif.) contributed 42 assists, 12 digs, and four kills to help the Chargers win its three sets 25-15, 25-11, and 15-12. Colby-Sawyer improves to 15-8 and the Vikings slip to 11-8 on the season.

In the first set, Salem State scored nine straight points bringing the score to 9-1. Colby-Sawyer regained their ground by tying up the score at 13 with Maddie Bromley (Truckee, Calif.) adding two service aces. The set was tight with three different ties, but the Vikings were able to pull away winning the set 25-22 from an attack error by Bre Sheehan (Stillwater, N.Y.).    

The Chargers took a 14-12 lead to force a Salem State timeout in the second set. Following the timeout, Colby-Sawyer took advantage of Salem State's attack errors winning the set 25-15. 

In the third set, the Chargers jumped out to an early lead at 6-2. The Vikings came from behind to tie the score at 11. Sam Mohammed (Killingworth, Conn.) was aggressive adding five kills in the set, to help Colby-Sawyer dominate the rest of the set. The Chargers scored 14 unanswered points to win the set 25-11.

The momentum shifted in the fourth set in Salem State's favor. Both teams were battling with the score locked at 19. With the Vikings' backs against the wall, they stayed composed to win the fourth set 25-21 with a definitive kill by Haley Reed (Goffston, N.H.).

In the final set, the Vikings took an 8-7 lead. The Chargers were more strategic with their attacks with four kills and a service ace in the final stretch to win the set 15-12.

For Salem State, Brynn O'Neill (Danvers, Mass.) totaled nine kills and 14 digs.

Colby-Sawyer combined for a total of 51 kills and a 0.164 hitting percentage and Salem State as a collective totaled 42 kills and a .064 hitting percentage.
