Simmons Spoils Salem State's Season Opener

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Salem State lost their season opener, 6-1 to Simmons on Wednesday afternoon in the season opener for the Vikings. The Sharks (1-2) took all three doubles matches and won five-out-of-six singles matches. Erin Curristin was the lone bright spot for Salem State (0-1), winning 6-1, 3-6, 10-4 over Emma Parsons at No. 5 singles.
Simmons swept doubles play with Emilie Lapointe / Masha Shutts earning a 6-0 shutout over Madison Sartori / Abigail Laliberte at No. 1 doubles. Julia Perconti / Emily Lopez defeated Ryann Tripp / Kenzie McLaren, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles while Reese McFarland / Grace Burke rounded out doubles play with a 6-3 victory over Alanna Zaldivar / Scarlet Chatham.
Shutts also picked up a win at No.1 singles, 6-2, 6-1 over Sartori while Lapointe blanked Tripp, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Amoli Vlad beat McLaren, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
