Women's Tennis Opens Season With 7-2 Loss to Simmons

SALEM, Mass. -- Salem State women's tennis opened the 2022 season on Monday with a 7-2 loss to Simmons at the Central Campus Tennis Courts. The Sharks led by Olga Zhizhin improve to 2-1 on the year while the Vikins go to 0-1.

Freshman Alyssa Otero picked up a pair of wins for the Vikings, winning at second singles 6-7, 6-3 10-4 over Leah Bonis and pairing with newcomer Kenzie McLaren at second doubles to pick up an impressive, 8-6 victory against Avery Halloran / Libby Weed.

Zhizhin, from the No.1 spot helped Simmons take 5-of-6 singles matches. Zhizhin defeated Samantha Tenney 6-1, 6-3 at first singles and teamed with Vanessa Camargo for an 8-1 win at first doubles. The Sharks won the remaining matches in straight sets.
