Panthers Nip Vikings 5-4

SALEM, Mass. --  Plymouth State took two-out-of three doubles matches to clip Salem State 5-4 in a Little East tennis match at The Central Campus Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon. Sage Winter (New Castle, N.H.) / Maggie McCarthy (Marion, Mass.) defeated Maddie Allaire (Columbus, Ohio) / Jenna Jarman (Auburn, N.Y.), 8-4 at first doubles while Jenna Sundquist (Monument Beach, Mass.) / Kerstin Venincasa (Sutton, Mass.) / beat Meredith Macdonald (Lynn, Mass.) / Kristin Klimowicz Ipswich, Mass.), 8-5 at third doubles.

Anastasia Startseva (Volgograd, Russia) / Caroline Robitaille (South Hadley, Mass.) earned a point for the Vikings at second doubles with an 8-1 victory over Irene Kigugu (Concord, N.H.) / Megan Wheeler (Manchester, N.H.).

Startseva and Allaire were victorious at first and second singles for the Vikings as each won handily over Winter and McCarthy. Kigugu picked up a point at third singles for the Panthers with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Jarman.

Robitalle won the other singles point for Salem State with a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Sundquist. Venincasa and Wheeler picked up victories at fifth and sixth singles for the Panthers.

Plymouth State is now 3-2 and 2-1 in the Little East while the Vikings slip to 1-2 and 0-1 in the league.
