Vikings and Lancers Battle to 0-0 Draw

WORCESTER, MASS – Salem State women's soccer traveled to Worcester State University this afternoon to take on the Lancers in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) matchup. After a hard-fought 90 minutes, neither team managed to score, resulting in a 0-0 draw in Worcester; bringing Salem's overall record to 4-8-3 and their conference record to 2-2-2.

How it Happened:

  • Jenna Mitza (Tyngsboro, Mass.) and Brenna Paquette (Hudson, N.H.) both landed a pair of shots on goal in the opening stanza, but the Lancers' keeper would turn both away to keep the Vikings scoreless.
  • On the other end, Ava Guyer (East Granby, Conn.) saved all six of Worcester's shots on goal to help maintain the 0-0 stalemate to head into the break.
  • The Lancers had the upper hand in the second half, attempting 10 shots compared to Salem's two. However, Guyer and her defense held strong, fending off the pressure to keep the Lancers scoreless after 90 minutes to solidify the 0-0 draw in Worcester.

Inside the Numbers:

  • Ava Guyer made 11 saves on the afternoon.
  • The Vikings are the first MASCAC team this season to hold the Lancers scoreless.
