SALEM, Mass. -- Delaney LaRose netted the only goal of the game early in the first period as the Rhode Island College Anchorwomen clipped the Vikings 1-0 in the season-opener for both squads on Friday evening at Alumni Field. Before the game Salem State honored Assistant Director of Athletics for Sports Medicine and Student-Athlete Wellness Scott Braid, who is leaving the University after 15 years for a position at Merrimack.

LaRose scored at the 4:52 mark of the opening period, beating keeper Ava Guyer with a shot just below the crossbar.

The Anchorwomen held a decisive 11-1 advantage in shots in the 1st half.

Karol Matamoros nearly extended the lead to 2-0 midway through the second half, but her shot banged off the crossbar following a corner kick.

The two teams combined for just seven shots in the second half.

Chloe Angelone picked up the win in net, stopping four shots for the shutout.

Ava Guyer made 10 saves in her Viking debut, allowing just the one goal.

Jenna Mitza and Savannah Scrodin led Salem State with two shots on goal apiece.
- This was the first meeting between the two teams since 2008, a 3-2 Viking's win.
