Vikings Spoil Trailblazers' Senior Day in Final Seconds

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Salem State women's soccer found themselves back in the win column after defeating the Trailblazers of MCLA with a goal in the final thrity seconds of regulation. This afternoon's victory pushed the Vikings over the .500 mark in conference play (3-2).

The Vikings looked to get on the board early with two shots on goal, but Eva Eberwein (Dalton, Mass.) saved both balls to keep the game scoreless. In the sixteenth minute, Lily Pfefferle (St. Paul, Minn.) got back in on the action when she turned away her second shot of the game to keep the game at a 0-0 stalemate. The remainder of the half would be relatively quiet with Eberwein turning away two more shots in the twenty-first and thirty-fifth minute to carry the 0-0 tally to the break.

Five minutes into the second half, Brenna Paquette (Hudson, N.H.) got her head on the ball but the shot was too wide to cause any concern for Eberwein in the net. The Vikings kept the pressure on the Trailblazer's defense as they fired off five shots but were not able to land any to keep the game scoreless with thirty minutes to play. The Vikings amped up their pressure in the final ten minutes firing off four shots but, unfortunately for the Vikings, Eberwein added to her save count to keep Salem off the board with one minute to play. When it looked like the game would end in a tie, Jenna Mitza (Tyngsboro, Mass.) pulled out the last second heroics after converting a pass from Cassandra Harrington (Boylston, Mass.) to secure the one and only goal of the game, solidifying Salem's victory over MCLA.
