Late Goal Lifts Bears Over Vikings

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Salem State women's soccer traveled to Bridgewater, Massachusetts to take on MASCAC foe, Bridgewater State University. A Bear's goal with just over ten minutes to play would be the decider as it lifted Bridgewater to the 1-0 victory: dropping Salem State to 2-2 in conference play.

Brenna Paquette (Hudson, N.H.) almost gave the Vikings an early lead ten minutes into the game when she sent a header towards the net, but Logan Levesque (Bristol, R.I.) denied her chance. Six minutes later the Bears had their chance to notch the first goal, but Lily Pfefferle (St. Paul, Minn.) made her first save on the afternoon to keep the game at a stalemate. The Bears would keep Pfefferle busy for the remainder of the half as they fired off shot after shot, but Pfefferle turned away all six shots on net to send the game to the break scoreless.

Four minutes into the second half Sydney Dewhurst (East Bridgewater, Mass.) launched a shot on net, and thankfully for the Vikings, the crossbar thwarted the Bears attempt at taking the lead. Over the next 35 minutes Pfefferle turned eight shots away to keep the Vikings' chance alive, but with just over ten minutes to play Lauren Sellmayer (North Easton, Mass.) found Dewhurst, who was able to land the first and only goal of the game to solidify Bridgewater's 1-0 victory over Salem.
