Salem Wins on Road, 3-0

LYNDON, Vt. – Salem State women's soccer notched their first win of the season this afternoon when they took the 3-0 victory over the Hornets of Northern Vermont University (NVU) – Lyndon. Brenna Paquette (Hudson, N.H.) paced the Vikings with two goals while teammate, Savannah Scrodin (Mount Abraham, Vt.), rounded out the scoring with one of her own on the afternoon.

The Vikings wasted no time keeping Karly Cordwell (Milan, N.H.), NVU's goalkeeper busy, as they fired off eleven shots in the opening fifteen minutes but, despite the early pressure, the Vikings did not land their first goal until 18 minutes into the game, after Cassandra Harrington (Boylston, Mass.) sent a through ball to Paquette to give Salem the 1-0 lead. Shortly after, NVU tried to even the score at one, but Ava Guyer (East Granby, Conn.) saved both of their attempts on goal to keep her team's 1-0 lead alive, which would carry to the halfway point.

Cordwell saved the Vikings' opening attempts on goal before Paquette would score her second goal of the game fifteen minutes into the second half after Sydney Durkin (Dracut, Mass.) crossed the ball into the box and Paquette rocketed it into the lower right corner to give Salem the 2-0 tilt. Less than a minute later, Scrodin would record her first goal of the season after capitalizing on a rebound to give the Vikings the commanding 3-0 edge with 25 minutes to play. Three goals would be enough for the Vikings as they would go on to take the 3-0 victory over the Hornets on the road.
