Cougars Sink Vikings, 7-0

WORCESTER, Mass. – Salem State women's soccer traveled to Worcester, Massachusetts this morning to take on the Cougars of Clark University. Despite a season-tying seven saves from Vikings' goalkeeper, Lily Pfefferle (St. Paul, Minn.), a five-goal second half from the Cougars allowed them to take the commanding 7-0 victory over the Vikings.

The Cougars wasted no time applying pressure in the Vikings' defensive end when two minutes into the game Pfefferle saved her first shot on the morning before Siobhan Lounsbury (Southbury, Conn.) snuck one past her for Clarks' first goal of the game.

Pfefferle turned away another Cougar shot before the Vikings' offense got in on the action as they fired off two shots, but both would be too wide to even the score at one. Thirty-three minutes into the game, Lounsbury scored her second goal of the game, to extend Clark's lead to two, which would hold for the remainder of the half to send the game into the break with the Cougars ahead 2-0.

After having two of their shots on goal turned away, Emma Tziachris (Cumberland, R.I) was able to land the Cougars' first goal of the second half to give the home team the 3-0 advantage. In the sixtieth minute, it looked like the Vikings were about to get on the board after Anna Latta (Southbury, Conn.) hit a promising ball towards net, but the crossbar would deny her attempt to keep the game at 3-0.

Clark would extend their lead to four with another goal before Julia Dantzler (Birmingham, Ala.) assisted on two additional goals before scoring her own to help her team cruise to the 7-0 victory over the visiting Vikings.
