Fitchburg State Ends Vikings' Season

Fitchburg, Mass. – Third seeded Fitchburg State (9-6-3, 5-1-1 MASCAC) defeated sixth seeded Salem State (Salem State (3-14-0, 2-5-0 MASCAC), 5-0 in quarterfinal round action of the 2022 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this evening from Elliot Field.

 

 

Fitchburg State opened the scoring just 3:43 into the frame when junior Ashley Porter (Upton, Mass.) collected a feed from sophomore Kendra Peretzman (Randolph, Mass.) and tucked a shot just under the cross bar for her sixth goal on the year for the 1-0 edge.

The Falcons doubled their lead in the 29th minute of play with Peretzman settling a rebounded shot off the foot of freshman Charlotte Meixsell (Boxford, Mass.) and buried a shot into the left side of the net for her fifth marker on the 2022 campaign to make the score 2-0.

The Green and Gold upped the lead to 3-0 at the 33:45 mark as newcomer Adrianna Westcott (Sayreville, N.J.) redirected a shot off the foot of junior Elizabeth Read (Fitchburg, Mass.) and into inside the near post for her eighth tally of the season.

Following the intermission, Fitchburg State extended the lead eight minutes into the second half when Peretzman collected a feed from Porter and riffled a shot into left side of the net for her second score of the contest for the 4-0 advantage.

The Falcons secured the victory five minutes later with Peretzman completing the hattrick, depositing a shot inside the far post to make the score 5-0.

Inside the Numbers

This evening's contest marked the 30th meeting between the two teams on the pitch with the Falcons 7-23-0 all-time when taking on the Vikings

Fitchburg State finished with a 33-12 margin in shots, while also holding a narrow 4-2 advantage in corner kicks

Senior Allison Gough (Wolcott, Conn.) stopped one shot, while junior Skyla Vaudo (Burlington, Mass.) added five saves for the Falcons

Freshman Kelsey Francis (Peabody, Mass.) and senior Lily Pfefferie (St. Paul, Minn.) combined to make 12 saves for the Vikings.
