Owls Spoil Vikings' Senior Day

SALEM, Mass. – This afternoon, Salem State women's soccer hosted the Owls of Westfield State for their final home game of the season. After 90 minutes of play the Owls kept their undefeated MASCAC record alive, defeating Salem State by a score of 6-1.

The duo of Jenn Rennich (Bedford, Mass.) and Delaney Parker (Orange, Mass) spearheaded the Owls with Rennich notching four goals and an assist and Parker recording two goals of her own to go along with two assists.

Brenna Paquette (Hudson, N.H.) had the lone goal for the Vikings off an assist from teammate and classmate Cassandra Harrington (Boylston, Mass.). On the defensive end, Kelsey Francis (Peabody, Mass.) made 13 saves in the effort.

The Vikings were under immediate pressure from the Owls, who attempted four shots on goal only to have them denied by Vikings goalkeeper, Francis. After 10 minutes of action, Parker was able to set up Rennich for the Owls' opening goal, giving them a 1-0 lead. Five minutes later, similarly, Rennich scored on a pass from Parker to increase the margin to two with 30 minutes left in the half.

Before Rennich added her third of the contest, in doing so completing her third hat trick of the year, and raising the score to 4-0, Parker slipped one of her own past Francis. Paquette gave the Vikings hope with four minutes left in the half when she blasted a shot over the extended arms of the Owl keeper to cut their lead to three at the break and give the Vikings their first goal of the game.

Less than ten minutes into the half, after consecutive Francis saves, Parker scored on a pass from Rennich to give the Owls a four-goal lead once more and raise the score to 5-1. Five minutes later, Rennich was given the chance to score her fourth goal of the match after being fouled in the box and was successful in doing so to increase Westfield's lead to five goals. With 30 minutes to play in the half the Vikings tried to chip away at the deficit as Savannah Scrodin (Mount Abraham, Vt.) sent a shot on goal but the Owl's keeper was able to turn it away keep their five goal cushion which would eventually carry them toa 6-1 victory over the Vikings.

The Vikings honored graduating seniors Angela Berry (Salem, Mass.), Jill Tramondozzi (Malden, Mass.), and Madison Pesce (Danvers, Mass.) in this afternoon's loss.
