Owls Soar Over Vikings in Non-Conference Battle

KEENE, NH. – Salem State women's soccer traveled to Keene, New Hampshire tonight for a non-conference battle against the Owls of Keene State. After 90 minutes of play the Owls took the 2-0 victory over the Vikings, dropping Salem State to 2-12 on the season.

Despite the loss, Vikings' keeper Lily Pfefferle (St. Paul, Minn.) made an impressive 17 saves in the contest.

Giuliana Stolfi (Newington, Conn.) and Allison Yanski (Concord, N.H.) both found the back of the net for the Owls in the victory.

The Owls wasted no time getting on the scoreboard when Yanski scored her first goal of the season to give her squad the 1-0 advantage three minutes into the game. From there, Pfefferle went on to make 13 saves in the remaining forty-plus minutes of the half to keep the Owls' lead to one.

Pfefferle began the second half in the same manner as the first, making back-to-back saves before teammate McKenna Gilligan (Salem, Mass.) attempted to tie the game for the Vikings but was unsuccessful due to the keeper for Keene State blocking her shot. Stolfi gave her team a 2-goal lead with 15 minutes left in the match by successfully converting a penalty kick; which proved to be enough as the Owls eventually won 2-0.
