Vikings Blank Lions For First Win of the Season

SALEM, Mass. -- Brenna Paquette (Hudson N.H.) scored twice to lead Salem State to their first victory of the season, 5-0 over Eastern Nazarene on Thursday evening at Alumni Field. The Vikings improve to 1-5 while the Lions slip to 1-6. 

Salem State scored four unanswered goals in the first half, outshooting Eastern Nazarene 12 -1. A cross from Jasmin Moran (Falmouth Mass.) to Paquette set up Salem State's first goal as Paquette beat Eastern Nazarene goalie Jasmine Arzu (Bronx, N.Y.) from 12 yards out in the 15th minute. Macy Hudzik (Dracut Mass.) headed in a corner from McKenna Gilligan (Salem Mass.) at the 31:06 mark, before Paquette was credited with the Vikings' third goal in the 34th minute.

Eryn Ward (Billerica, Mass.) skipped a shot past Arzu, who misplayed the save into a 4-0 Vikings' lead with less than three minutes to play in the first half. The Vikings held a 5-0 advantage in corners.  

Salem State allowed just one shot attempt by Eastern Nazarene in the second half. The Vikings dominated possession as Salem State's defense did not allow a shot on goal in the game.

JennaMitza (Tyngsboro, Mass. ) made the score 5-0, beating Arzu to her right in the 63rd minute.

Lily Pfefferle (St. Paul, Minn.) notched her first win in net for te Vikings while Arzu made 12 saves in the loss for the Lions.
