Blazers Post 4-1 Win Over Salem State

SALEM, Mass. -- Kelly Malheiro (Pittsfield, Mass.) scored two goals and added an assist as Elms defeated Salem State 4-1 on Wednesday evening at Alumni Field. The Blazers improve to 3-4-1 while the Vikings slip to 0-5.

Caroline Wilcox ( Pomfret Center, Conn.) put Elms on top early when she knocked in a loose ball just outside the box for a 1-0 lead. Malheiro scored her first of the night when she beat the Salem State defense and laced a shot into the upper left corner of the goal, giving the Blazers a 2-0 lead just 5:31 into the game. Salem State's Jasmine Moran (Falmouth Mass.) cut the deficit in half, when she outraced the Elms' defense and caught keeper Angela Picheo (Woodridge, N.J.) outside the box. Moran lifted a shot that skimmed off the keepers hands and into the back of the net. Elms held a 9-5 advantage in shots before halftime.

Malheiro added her second goal of the game in the 48th minute before Hannah Duggan (Palmer, Mass.) banged home a rebound in the 69th minute that made the final 4-1. Elms ended the contest with 18 shots on goal to Salem State's seven.

Picheo earned the win making five saves. Cheyenne Frazier (Norwell, Mass.) stopped 13 shots for the Vikings.
