Vikings Lose 6-2 to Beacons

Boston, Mass. -- UMass Boston scored five second half goals to surge past Salem State 6-2 on Monday night at James Cotter Field. The Beacons improve to 3-0-1 while the Vikings remain winless at 0-4.

Despite outshooting Salem State, 16-1 in the first half, the Beacons found themselves tied 1-1 at halftime. The Vikings' Jenna Thomas scored the first of her two goals in the 26th minute, giving the visitors an early 1-0 lead. Mary Jo Murphy found the equalizer three minutes later as the game remained deadlocked heading into halftime.

The Beacons fired off 26 second half shots, exploding for five goals to win going away. Grace McGettrick started the run with a goal in the 47th minute. Grace Oliver and Lindsay Bouscaren added back-to-back scores before Thomas added her second of the night, cutting the deficit to 4-2. However, Kaylee Haynes and Maggie Kelley extended the lead to four-goals as UMass Boston pulled away late, limiting the Vikings to just four second half shots.

Lily Pfefferle made 12 saves for Salem State. Maria Spylios stopped two shots for the Beacons to earn the win.
