Salem State Loses 5-0 to Plymouth State

SALEM, Mass. -- Sarah Hicks (Sutton, Mass.) netted two goals and added an assist as Plymouth State scored a 5-0 win over Salem State on Wednesday evening at Alumni Field. The Panthers improve to 3-0 on the year while the Vikings go to 0-3.

The first 20 minutes of the contest were evenly played as neither team's offense could gain traction. Hicks finally broke the stalemate, when she converted a nice feed from (Jordan Meier (Holderness, N.H.) in the 25th minute. Emily Haik (Westerly, R.I.) increased the lead to 2-0 when her shot on an assist from Hicks snuck past Salem State goalie Lily Pfefferle (St. Paul, Minn.) in the 39th minute.  The Panthers picked up the pace offensively before halftime, finishing the first with a 12-2 advantage in shots and a 9-0 margin in corners.

Hicks scored her second of the game in the 50th minute before Mallory Lloyd (Hartland, Vt.) extended the lead to 4-0 in the 59th minute. Alanna Joyce (Windham, Maine) broke free and beat Pfefferle, who was all alone for the Panthers final goal with less than 10 minutes remaining. Plymouth State did not allow a shot on goal in the second half, limiting Salem State to just two total shots for the game.

Elena Register (Helena, Ala.) made one save in the win while Pfefferle finished with 10 saves for the Vikings.
