Corsairs Post 5-0 Victory Over Salem State

SALEM, Mass. --  Kaitlyn Bernier (Dartmouth Mass.) scored twice and added an assist to lead UMass Dartmouth to 5-0 victory over Salem State at Alumni Field on Saturday afternoon, The Corsairs improve to 1-0-1 on the year while the Vikings slip to 0-2.

UMass Dartmouth scored all five goals before halftime. The Corsairs raced out to a quick 2-0 lead in the game's opening minutes and never looked back. Jillian Prout (Dartmouth, Mass.) netted the first goal in the 2nd minute and was followed just over a minute later by Bernier.

Kaitlyn Nguyen (New Fairfield, Conn.) added the third Corsairs' goal, putting home a deflected ball before Bernier's second goal of the game off a turnover made it 4-0 with less than 11 minutes remaining in the half. Sarah Vieira's (Dartmouth, Mass.) shot from 20 yards out slipped past goalie Cheyenne Frazier (Norwell, Mass.) for a 5-0 halftime lead.

UMass Dartmouth posted 25 shots in the half to just three for Salem State.

Lily Pfefferle (St. Paul, Minn.) replaced Frazier in net at halftime for Salem State. Frazier made 12 saves for the Vikings while Pfefferle posted six.

Salem State closed the disparity in total shots in the second, as the offense totaled nine shots to UMass Dartmouth's 12. The Corsairs held a 37-12 advantage for the game.

Katherine Hubbard (Haverhill, Mass.) made five stops in the win.
