Capozzi Nets Two In Vikings Win

SALEM, Mass. - Taylor Capozzi (Lynn, Mass.) scored two goals in the Salem State Vikings' 4-2 win over the Plymouth State Panthers on Wednesday evening at Alumni Field. Salem State improves their record to 5-10 on the season while the Panthers fall to 6-7-2.

In the 10th minute, Capozzi and Casey McFall's (Wilmington, Mass.) give-and-go play set up Capozzi for a low shot under goalkeeper Jenna Parsons (Windham, N.H.).

Salem State was able to keep their 1-0 lead into halftime.

Ashley Leboeuf (Dracut, Mass.) scored the second goal for the Vikings in the 64th minute. The shot found the left side of the net to put Salem State up 2-0. In the 66th minute, Capozzi shot the ball from an unbelievable angle from ten yards out. Capozzi was behind the net on the left side of the field and the ball soared into the right side of the net.

Sarah Hicks (Sutton, Mass.) put the Panthers on the board with a soft touch on the foot in the 71st minute. Off of a deflection, Taylor Siewierski (Colebrook, N.H.) took a shot that floated in the right side of the net to close the gap to 3-2.

In the 83rd minute, Salem State took a corner and McFall capitalized with a strong shot, giving the Vikings a 4-2 lead.

For the match, Plymouth State's Parsons saved seven shots and for Salem State, Amanda Backe (Danvers, Mass.) saved four shots.

Salem State will wrap up the regular season at home with a conference game against Westfield State.
