Bridgewater State Ends Salem State's Season

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. –- Meredith Sylvia scored four goals and had an assist as No. 4 seed Bridgewater State defeated No. 5 seed Salem State, 21-9 in the quarterfinals of the MASCAC Women's Lacrosse Tournament at Mazzaferro Field on Tuesday afternoon. The Bears (14-4) advance to the MASCAC Semifinals on Thursday while the Vikings finish their season 9-9.
Camryn Gonsalves had three goals and eight assists and Riley Bina and Melanie McClay combined for six goals an an assist to lead Bridgewater State.
Jordan Turcotte posted three goals for the Vikings while Megan Parthum and Aislinn Bennett recorded two goals apiece.
How It Happened:
- Bridgewater State raced out to an 11-1 first quarter lead, scoring the first five goals of the game. Jordan Turcotte's free position goal ended the run, but the Bears closed the quarter on a 6-0 run with Bina adding her third of the game.
- Salem State responded with three straight scores to open the second as Aislinn Bennett, Parthum and Laura Young all found the back of the net. Savannah Herrington answered for Bridgewater State. Sophia Fleurent's goal for the Bears with :10 seconds left gave the Bears a 15-5 lead.
- The Bears outscored the Vikings 5-1 in the third quarter as Gonsalves assisted on the final four Bridgewater State scores of the quarter.
- Turcotte added a pair of scores in the fourth for Salem State making the final, 21-9.
- Sara Skaff (13-4) made five saves in the win.
- Nora Bradley stopped three shots in the loss.
