Mass Maritime Clips Salem State

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. –- Lindsy Durgin scored three goals to lead Mass Maritime to their fourth win of the season as the Buccaneers defeated Salem State, 5-4 at Clean Harbors Stadium on Saturday evening. Mass Maritime is now 4-10 and 1-5 in the MASCAC. The Vikings are 9-8 and 1-5 in conference. Despite the loss, Salem State earned the fifth seed in the upcoming MASCAC Tournament and will face fourth seed Bridgewater State on Tuesday.

How it Happened

  • Siobhan Smith and Kaylee Rich scored on free position shots to put Salem State up 2-0 in the first. Tessa Hinds cut the deficit to 2-1 with :28 seconds remaining in the quarter.
  • Durgin and Allie Dickinson's free position score gave Mass Maritime their first lead midway through the second. Aislinn Bennett tied the game for the Vikings :50 seconds later as the two teams headed into halftime tied at 3-3.
  • Laura Young and Durgin exchanged scores for each side in the third as the game entered the fourth tied, 4-4.  
  • Durgin scored the go-ahead goal with 6:65 remaining in the fourth quarter as Mass Maritime held on for the 5-4 win.
  • Christiane Rech (3-10) made five saves in the win.
  • Nora Bradley (9-7) made nine saves in the loss.
