Vikings Pick Up First Conference Win

FITCHBURGH, Mass. –- Salem State picked up their first conference win with a 12-9 victory over Fitchburg State at Elliott Field on Thursday evening. The Vikings are now 9-7 and 1-4 in the MASCAC. The Falcons slip to 2-13 and 1-4 in conference.
Jordan Turcotte - four goals, assist -- and Kaylee Rich -- three goals -- spearheaded the Salem State offense. Laura Young added a pair of goals and two assists.
Jessica St. George topped Fitchburg's offense with three goals. Autumn Tibbetts contributed two goals and an assist.
How it Happened
- Rich put Salem State in front, 1-0 two minutes into the first. Julia Theriault and St. George answered for Fitchburg State before Turcotte tied the game at 2-2. Breanna White's man-up goal put the Falcons on top 3-2.
- Turcotte and Rich regained the lead for the Vikings to start the second. St. George answered for the Falcons, but Young and Turcotte sandwiched goals around a Tibbetts score to give Salem State a 6-5 halftime advantage.
- St. George's free position shot score tied the game again at 6-6, but the Vikings responded with three straight goals to take a 9-6 lead. Samantha Azzari got one back for Fitchburg State, which trailed 9-7 going into the fourth.
- Siobhan Smith and Turcotte helped Salem State pull away in the fourth as they added back-to-back goals. Tibbetts tallied a score for the Falcons, but Megan Parthum pushed the lead back to four goals, 12-8 with 2:08 remaining.
- Nora Bradley earned her ninth win (9-6) making eight saves.
- Elizabeth Smith (0-5) took the loss stopping 13 shots.
Salem State ends their regular season at Mass Maritime this Saturday at 6:00 pm.
