Salem State Surges Past Mount Holyoke

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. –- Laura Young scored six goals and added two assists and Jordan Turcotte netted five goals, including three in the final 10:23 of the game to lead Salem State to a 14-11 victory over Mount Holyoke on The Turf at on Tuesday evening. The Vikings up their record to 8-2 while the Lyons dip to 3-7.
Trailing 11-9 in the fourth, Turcotte scored three times as Salem State ended the game on a 5-0 run to claim a 14-11 win.
Turcotte also had two assists while Megan Parthum, Kaylee Rich and Aislinn Bennett also found the back of the net. Emi Bisson led Mount Holyoke with three goals while Elle Mader added two goals and two assists.
How it Happened
- Parthum and Rich put Salem State up 2-0 early in the first. Turcotte' s first goal with :45 seconds remaining in the quarter made it 4-2, but the Lyons scored in the closing second to cut the deficit to 4-3.
- Tied 4-4 in the second, Young scored three consecutive goals to put the Vikings on top 7-4. Mader and Ella Phillips answered for Mount Holyoke as Salem State led 7-6 heading into the half.
- The Lyons pulled ahead with three scores to open the third. However, Young countered for the Vikings and Turcotte scored on a free position shot to tie the game at the end of three quarters.
- Despite Salem State having a man-advantage, Bisson and Mackenzie Hillman gave Mount Holyoke a two-goal lead early in the fourth before the Vikings exploded for five straight scores led by Turcotte's three goals.
- Nora Bradley (8-2) made 13 saves in the win.
- Valeria Bolanos (3-7) had 11 saves for the Lyons.
- Mount Holyoke held a slight 33-30 advantage in shots.
Salem State will face Framingham State in their next matchup on Friday, April 4 @ 4:00 pm.
