Salem State Clips UMass Boston

BOSTON –- Salem State won for the fifth time in their past six games as the Vikings picked up an 11-8 victory over UMass Boston on Tuesday, outscoring the Beacons 6-1 in the final quarter. Jordan Turcotte scored three goals and Siobhan SmithKaylee Rich and Aislinn Bennett all added two goals apiece in the come-from-behind win. The Vikings are now 7-2, their best start since 2012 when they went 6-2. The Beacons are now 5-4.   

Hannah Rich, Ava Duffy and Teresa Sheedy all had two goals apiece for UMass Boston.

How it Happened

  • Angelina Mazzone and Rich gave UMass Boston a 2-1 first quarter lead. 
  • Young's man-up goal at 12:32 of the second tied the game for Salem State at 2-2.
  • Duffy notched consecutive goals for the Beacons before Bennett's man-up goal and Rich tied the game at 4-4 heading into halftime.
  • UMass Boston opened the third quarter with three unanswered scores to take a 7-4 lead. Rich got one back for Salem State with a man-up goal with 1:38 left to cut the deficit to 7-5.
  • Turcotte and Megan Parthum added man-up goals to tie the the game again at 7-all with 10:16 remaining in the fourth.
  • Sheedy drew the Beacons to within a score, but the Vikings closed the game on a 4-0 run with Turcotte contributing two of the goals as Salem State pulled away for an 11-8 win.
  • Nora Bradley (6-2) made 14 saves in the win.
  • Elizabeth Crowley started for UMass Boston and made one save. Emerson Homa (1-1) made a save in the loss.
  • UMass Boston outshot the Vikings 30-16.
