SALEM, Mass.- Salem State women's lacrosse invited the Falcons from Fitchburg State University to Alumni Field tonight for their regular season finale. An eight-goal opening frame propelled the Falcons to the 15-8 victory over the Vikings. With the loss the Vikings ended their regular season with a 2-12, 0-6 record while the win gave the Falcons their first conference victory of the season (7-9,1-4).

Nicole Orlowski (Ellington, Ct.) led the Falcons with a game-high five goals, while Jessica St. George (Dracut, Mass.) and Brianna Hodgman (Winchester, N.H.) chipped in with four and three goals, respectively. Defensively, Caitlin Persson (Worcester, Mass.) saved 17 shots in the victory.

For the Vikings, Jenna Wells (Revere, Mass.) recorded three goals and one assist while Aislinn Bennett (Milford, Mass.) added a pair of goals with her helper. Kenzie Currey (Bel Air, Md.), Kaia Hollingsworth (Methuen, Mass.), and Laura Young (Leominster, Mass.) rounded out the scoring with one apiece in the effort.

How it Happened

  • Orlowski found the back of the net four times in the opening stanza to spearhead the Falcons to the 8-1 edge after 15 minutes of action.
  • The Falcons added a pair of goals to their tally before Wells connected on her second goal of the game to make it a 10-2 game with 12:39 to play in the second. However, the Falcons were able to extend their lead to double digits with under two minutes to play, giving them the 12-2 lead heading into the break.
  • At the seven-minute mark of the third, Young found Wells for her third goal of the game before Young snuck one past Persson in the final second to make it 13-4 game heading into the final stanza.
  • The Vikings mounted a comeback in the fourth, scoring three unanswered goals to bring the score to 13-7 but that would be as close as the Vikings would get as the Falcons held on for the 15-8 victory.
