Bears Triumph Over Vikings

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Salem State women's lacrosse traveled to Bridgewater, Massachusetts this evening to take on the Bears of Bridgewater State University. A seven-goal second and fourth quarter would spearhead the home team to the 22-4 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) victory, dropping the Vikings to 2-10 on the season and 0-4 in conference play.

The Bears saw four players record hat tricks with Erin McIntyre (Tewksbury, Mass.) leading the way with six goals and three helpers in the victory.

Kenzie Currey (Bel Air, Md.), Jenna Wells (Revere, Mass.), Aislinn Bennett (Milford, Mass.), and Hannah Cochran (Marshfield, Mass.) all found the back of the net in the Vikings' effort.

How it Happened

  • McIntyre scored four goals in the opening frame to pace her team to the 5-0 lead after 15 minutes of action.
  • The Bears would tack on another five goals before a man-up situation for the Vikings resulted in a goal from Currey to make it a 10-1 game with 4:36 to play in the half. The Bears would add a pair of goals to their total before Wells found the back of the net in the closing minute of the second to send the game into the break with Bridgewater ahead, 12-2.
  • One minute into the third frame the Bears increased their lead to 12 before Bennett answered on the other end with a free position goal, making it a 13-3 game with 12:45 to play in the quarter. The Vikings would notch their second goal of the stanza after Laura Young (Leominster, Mass.) found Cochran to make it a 14-4 game, but McIntyre would add to her tally when she made it a 15-4 game to head into the final frame.
  • The Bears would outscore the Vikings 7-0 in the fourth quarter to seal their 22-4 victory.

The Vikings remain on the road this Saturday, April 20th when they travel to Worcester State University to take on the Lancers. Game time is scheduled for noon.
