SALEM, Mass.- Salem State women's lacrosse welcomed the Kangaroos of SUNY Canton on Thursday evening for a non-conference bout at Alumni Field. The Kangaroos recorded five goals in three separate quarters of the game to lead them to an 18-9 victory over Salem State. The Kangaroos improved their record to 2-3 while the Vikings are still seeking their first win of the season.

Lindsey Wunder (Walworth, NY) emerged as the game's top scorer with five goals for SUNY Canton, while Maddy Caron (Marcellus, NY) followed with four goals and just as many ground balls. Olivia Scott (Potsdam, NY) saved 9 shots in the victory.

For the Vikings Kenzie Currey (Bell Air, Md.), Laura Young (Leominster, Mass.), Aislinn Bennett (Milford, Mass.), and Jenna Wells (Revere, Mass.) each recorded two goals in the effort with Young dishing out three assists as well. In net, Nora Bradley (Haddon Township, N.J.)  saved 15 of 33 shots.

The Kangaroos struck first just over one minute into the action, but the Vikings answered quickly when Aislinn Bennett (Milford, Mass.) scored on a brilliant assist by Kaia Hollingsworth (Methuen, Mass.) at the 12:55 mark. Shortly after, Bennett found Wells to give the Vikings the 2-1 lead at the 10:53 mark. From there, the rest of the opening stanza would find the game tied at three goals apiece and then four goals apiece before the Kangaroos found the back of the net at the four-minute mark to take the 5-4 lead heading into the second quarter.

Kaia Hollingsworth would tie the game at five just two minutes into the second, but the rest of the quarter would be all SUNY Canton as they recorded five unanswered goals to take the 10-5 lead to head into the break.

Currey and Wells would both notch their second goals of the game in the third quarter, but the Kangaroos were able to answer with another five-goal quarter to keep the game firmly in their control (15-7) to head into the final 15 minutes of play.

The Kangaroos would lead by as many as 10 goals in the fourth quarter before back-to-back goals from Young and Bennett would bring it back to a single-digit deficit before the horn sounded to signify the 18-9 victory for the Kangaroos.

Salem State will be looking to bounce back this Saturday, March 16, when they travel to Providence, R.I., to face Rhode Island College. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
