SALEM, Mass. – Salem State women's lacrosse welcomed Northshore foe Gordon College for a non-conference bout this evening. A seven-goal opening stanza propelled the Fighting Scots to the 15-5 victory over the Vikings, dropping Salem to 0-4 on the season.

For the Vikings, Kenzie Currey (Bel Air, Md.) and Kaia Hollingsworth (Methuen, Mass.) both recorded two goals on the night with Currey scooping up a team-high nine ground balls in the effort. Defensively, Nora Bradley turned away 11 shots in the loss.

On the other side, Kaitlin Mini (Malden, Mass.) was responsible for more than half of the Fighting Scots tallies as she netted five goals while dishing out two assists on the evening while Abbie Zorrilla (Ephrata, Pa.) and Caroline Piorkowski (Millis, Mass.) each recorded hat tricks in the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Just two minutes into the action Mini notched the game's first goal to give the Scots the 1-0 tilt. However, Currey would answer seconds later when she secured the draw control and weaved her way past defenders before finding the back of the net to tie the game at one. From there, behind back-to-back Piorkowski goals, the Fighting Scots would score six more goals to take the commanding 7-1 lead to head into the second quarter.

Hollingsworth would notch her first goal of the game at the 9:12 mark of the second to make it a five-goal game, before Mini widened Gordon's gap once again to send the game into the break with her squad ahead, 8-2.

Zorilla opened the third quarter with two goals in the opening three minutes before Jenna Wells (Revere, Mass.) stopped the bleeding at the 9:16 mark to make it a 10-3 game. Over the next nine minutes the Fighting Scots would score four more times, compared to the two additional goals from the Vikings, to make it a 14-5 game heading into the final 15 minutes of action.

The Fighting Scots would add one more goal to their total in the closing minutes of the game to solidify their 15-5 victory over the Vikings.

Salem State will be looking to bounce back Thursday, March 14 when they welcome SUNY Canton to Alumni Field. Game Time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
