Lancers Put an End to Vikings' Season in MASCAC Quarterfinals

WORCESTER, Mass. – The fifth ranked VIkings traveled to Worcester tonight to take on the fourth seeded Lancers of Worcester State University in the first round of the MASCAC tournament. After 60 minutes of action, the Lancers put an end to the Vikings 2023 season with the 17-3 victory.

On offense Salem was paced by Madison White (Salem, Mass.) and Jenna Wells (Revere, Mass.) who both had one and two goals, respectively, in the effort with helpers from Taylor Sujko (Revere, Mass.) and Mackenzie Schmink (Danvers, Mass.). Defensively, Carson Reidy (Burlington, Mass.) made 13 saves in the contest.

How it Happened:

  • In the opening two minutes, Sujko found White for the game's first tally to put the Vikings ahead 1-0. Reidy was able to turn away two of the Lancers' shots before they were able to sneak one past her to even the game at one apiece with 8:02 to play in the first. From there, the Lancers would go on to score five unanswered goals to take the 6-1 advantage going into the second period.
  • Clare Conway (Billerica, Mass.) kept the Lancers offense hot as she notched a goal in the opening thirty seconds to extend her team's lead to six (7-1).
  • After the Lancers added another goal to their tally, the Vikings were able to take advantage of a man-up situation when Wells found the back of the net to bring the game to 8-2 with 6:25 to play in the half.
  • Worcester was able to close out the half with two unanswered goals to take the commanding 10-2 lead heading into the break.
  • Once again, Reidy turned away two Lancers' attempts before Lily Gendron (Lakeville, Mass.) scored three unanswered goals over the course of six minutes to give Worcester the 13-2 edge with just over six minutes to play in the third.
  • With the clock reading 1:28, Molly Witkowski (Port Jervis, N.Y.) recorded the Lancers' fourth and final goal of the period to send the game into the final fifteen minutes with Worcester ahead 14-2.
  • The Vikings would hold the Lancers to their lowest goal total in the final period with Reidy turning away two shots, but the deficit proved to be too much as the Lancers cruised to the 17-3 MASCAC quarterfinal victory.
