Lancers Spoil Vikings' Senior Night

SALEM, Mass. – Tonight, Salem State women's lacrosse welcomed the Lancers of Worcester State University for their final home game of the season. After 60 minutes of action the Lancers took the 19-5 victory over the Vikings to drop Salem to 1-4 in conference play. Prior to the game the Vikings honored their five graduating seniors: Jessica Robert (North Reading, Mass.), Angela Berry (Salem, Mass.), Taylor Sujko (Revere, Mass.), Mackenzie Schmink (Danvers, Mass.) and Jenna Wells (Revere, Mass.).

Kaia Hollingsworth (Methuen, Mass.) paced the Vikings with two goals while Taylor Sujko (Revere, Mass.) added one goal and one helper in the effort. Mackenzie Schmink (Danvers, Mass.) and Aislinn Bennett (Milford, Mass.) rounded out the scoring with one goal each. Defensively, Carson Reidy (Burlington, Mass.) made 11 saves in the contest.

The Lancers were spearheaded by Shea Jarvis (five goals, two assists) and Clare Conway (four goals, one assist) with Lily Gendron and Emily Pavoni each notching hat tricks in the victory.

How it Happened:

  • Conway wasted no time getting in the box score as she found the back of the net in the opening minute of the game before finding Jarvis two minutes later to give the Lancers the 2-1 edge.
  • After Worcester added two more goals over the next four minutes, Sujko notched the Vikings' first goal to make it a three-goal game with eight minutes to play in the first. The Vikings would only add one more goal in the period while the Lancers added five to take the 9-2 edge heading into the second.
  • The Lancers would explode for seven more goals in the second, with half of them coming from the hands of Conway or Jarvis, while Hollingsworth notched the lone Salem goal of the period to go into the break behind, 16-3.
  • Schmink started the half with a quick goal but would be matched by a Lancer goal shortly after to keep the deficit at 13.
  • Hollingsworth would add her second goal of the game at the 6:30 mark of the third but once again the Lancers would match the Vikings with a goal of their own to go into the final fifteen minutes with a comfortable 18-5 lead.
  • The Lancers would tack on one more goal before taking the eventual 19-5 MASCAC victory.
