Bears Sink Vikings in Conference Matchup

SALEM, Mass. – This evening, Salem State women's lacrosse welcomed the Bears of Bridgewater State University for a conference matchup. Despite two Vikings notching hat tricks on the night, the Bears were able to take the 12-7 victory over the Vikings to drop Salem to 1-3 in conference play.

Taylor Sujko (Revere, Mass.) and Madison White (Salem, Mass.) both recorded hat tricks tonight with Sujko adding an assist for a team-high four points. Mackenzie Schmink (Danvers, Mass.) rounded out the scoring with a goal of her own in the effort.

Delaney Langton (Scituate, R.I.) handed out five helpers along with a goal to lead the Bears and record a game-high six points while seven other members of her team found the back of the net in the victory.

How it Happened:

  • The Bears took the early lead when Meredith Sylvia (South Dartmouth, Mass.) found the back of the net two minutes into the first period, but Schmink would respond three minutes later to tie the game at one apiece.
  • The game would remain tied until the closing two minutes of the first when Langton scored her lone goal to give the Bears the 2-1 tilt.
  • The Bears scored six unanswered goals to take the commanding 8-1 lead before Sujko stopped the bleeding after back-to-back goals cut the deficit to five heading into the half.
  • The Bears found their cushion back at seven goals with 4:42 to play in the third before Kaia Hollingsworth (Methuen, Mass.) found White for the Vikings' fourth goal of the game. Bridgewater would tack on another goal in the closing seconds to go into the final fifteen minutes with the 11-4 edge.
  • Despite outscoring the Bears 3-1 in the final period, the deficit proved to be too much and the Bears took home the 12-7 victory.
