Vikings Fall to Rams in Conference Action

SALEM, Mass. – Salem State women's lacrosse found themselves back on Alumni Field this morning as they welcomed the Rams of Framingham State University for a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) matchup. After 60 minutes of action, Hannah Guerin (Cumberland, R.I.) notched 12 points for the Rams to lead her team to the 21-7 victory over the Vikings.

For the Vikings, Aislinn Bennett (Milford, Mass.), Kaia Holingsworth (Methuen, Mass.), and Mackeznie Schmink (Danvers, Mass.) all recorded two goals of their own, with Laura Young (Leominster, Mass.) adding one on the afternoon.

Hannah Guerin (Cumberland, R.I.) and Leah Green (Chelmsford, Mass.) led the way for the Rams with five goals apiece, with Guerin also handing out seven assists in the victory. Molly Lanier (Tyngsboro, Mass.) and Rachel Erikson (Dunstable, Mass.) added four and three goals, respectively.

How it Happened:

  • The Rams wasted no time grabbing the lead as three different Rams found the back of the net in the opening five minutes of the game to take the early 3-0 tilt. Carson Reidy (Burlington, Mass.) was able to turn away the next three shots before Baker snuck one past her to give the Rams a four-goal advantage with under six minutes to play in the first.
  • After the Rams added three more first period goals to their total, the Vikings notched their first goal of the game when Madison White found Aislinn Bennett with 30 seconds to play in the opening period.
  • Schmink opened the second period with a top pocket goal to cut into the Rams lead (7-2) but the Rams would answer two minutes later to reestablish their six-goal cushion. The remainder of the half would be all Rams as they recorded seven more goals, with Guerin scoring or assisting on six of the seven goals, to head into the half with the commanding 15-2 lead.
  • Two minutes into the half Hollingsworth connected on a free position shot before Young scored a goal of her own to cut into Framingham's lead (15-4). Later in the period, Hollingsworth and Bennet would each notch their second goal of the game to spearhead the Vikings in outscoring the Rams 4-2 in the third period.
  • Despite the strong third period, the Rams were able to hold on to their double-digit lead for the final fifteen minutes and take the eventual 21-7 victory over the Vikings.
