Vikings Dominant in Win Over Trailblazers

SALEM, Mass. -- Salem State scored 10 first period goals as the Vikings easily defeated MCLA, 21-4 in the MASCAC opener for both teams on Saturday at Alumni Field. Taylor Sujko - 3 goals and 2 assists and Jenna Wells - 4 goals, led Salem State to their largest offensive outburst of the season.

Wells scored two-of-the-first three goals for the Vikings (4-5, 1-0) to open the game. Julia Graham and Summer Nichols answered for the Trailblazers (2-2, 0-1) before Salem State ripped off four straight goals, including two by Madison White to take a 7-2 lead. Mackenzie SchminkAislinn Bennett and Breanna Stead all wound up in the scorer's column, which allowed Salem State to take a 10-3 lead after one period. Five different Vikings found the back of the net in the second as Salem State built a 15-3 halftime advantage. Sujko netted her 100th career point in a period that saw the Vikings outshoot the Traiblazers 13-1.

The Vikings' scoring run reached twelve unanswered goals as Sujko, Wells, Hannah Cochran and Schmink all added scores in the third period pushing the lead to 19-3. Skyelyn Haynes ended the drought for MCLA with a goal at 10:44 of the fourth before Hollingsworth and Cochran each added their second goals of the game to cap the scoring, as Salem State went on to win 21-4.   

Goalie Carson Reidy made two saves to pick up the win. Lori Lester stopped 14 shots for the Trailblazers, who were outshot 47-8 for the game. White finished with two goals and two assists while Schmink had a team-high eight groundballs and four caused turnovers for the Vikings.
