Salem Falls to Plymouth on the Road

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Salem State women's lacrosse team found themselves on the road again this afternoon as they traveled to Plymouth, New Hampshire to take on the Panthers of Plymouth State University. The Panthers blanked the Vikings while tacking on x goals to take the commanding 18-0 victory over Salem State.

In the effort, Carson Reidy (Burlington, Mass.) made 16 saves, while Jenna Thomas (Cumberland, R.I.) and Catherine Lawrence (Guilford, Conn.) scooped up four ground balls apiece in the loss.

The Panthers were paced by Maddie Hunt (Acton, Mass.) who notched five goals and Julia Donovan (Antrim, N.H.) who had one goal to go along with five helpers in the victory.

How it Happened:

  • Just three minutes in the game the Panthers found themselves with the early 1-0 edge after a Salem penalty allowed Plymouth to take full advantage of being a man up. Vikings goalkeeper, Carson Reidy, would turn away the next two Panther shots before Amelia Thomas (Hopkinton, N.H.) was able to sneak one past Reidy to put her squad ahead 2-0. The Panthers would use the last five minutes of the opening stanza to tack on three more goals to give them the 5-0 advantage heading into the second period.
  • The Vikings were able to keep the Panthers at bay for the opening five minutes of the second, with Reidy turning away two of Plymouth's attempts, before Hunt was able to convert a pass from Donovan to extend her squad's lead to six. The remainder of the second period was all Panthers as they held the Vikings to only one clear attempt and added five more goals of their own to go into the break with the commanding 11-0 advantage.
  • Reidy made back-to-back saves for the Vikings to open the half, which spearheaded her offense to try and get on the board, but Angela Berry's (Salem, Mass.) shot would be wide and leave her team still looking for their first tally.
  • At the 8:30 mark in the third period, Hunt capitalized on a free position shot to add to her team's total before one of her Panther teammates gave Plymouth the 13-goal cushion on a free position shot of her own. The Panthers would go on to add two more goals before heading into the final 15 minutes of play.
  • Plymouth State would add three more goals in the fourth period before taking the eventual 18-0 victory over the Vikings.
