Vikings Win 16-4 Over Corsairs

SALEM, Mass.Mackenzie Schmink (Danvers, Mass.) tallied seven goals and Taylor Sujko (Revere, Mass.) added four goals and an assist as Salem State ran past UMass Dartmouth 16-4 on Tuesday evening at Alumni Field. The Vikings improve to 3-5 while the Corsairs got to 1-8.

Suzanne Stefanik (Dalton, Mass.) – 3 goals, Megan Parthum (Marblehead, Mass.) – 1  goal, 1 assist and Madelynn Plourde (Bennington, Mass.) – 1 goal, all contributed to the victory.

Melanny Sanchez Alvarez (Stamford, Conn.) - 2 goals, 1 assist, Sarah Orton (Swansea, Mass.) – 1 goal and Erin Donovan (Easton, Mass.) all scored for UMass Dartmouth.

The two teams traded goals in the opening minute as a Sujko score and free position shot by Sanchez Alva made the score 1-1. Sanchez Alva and Donovan netted back-to-back scores for the Corsairs and the visitors exited the first quarter with a 3-1 lead.

Salem State took control in the second, scoring six unanswered goals to take a 7-3 halftime lead. Schmink and Stefanik had two goals apiece in the period, which saw the Vikings outshoot UMass Dartmouth 11-0.

Salem State added five unanswered goals in the third period to go up 12-3. Sujko tallied two free position shots in the quarter before Orton ended the streak with a goal for the Corsairs with :12 seconds remaining.

Schmink closed the game with four straight goals in the fourth quarter, scoring on all seven of her shot attempts for the game as the Vikings won going away, 16-4.

Kaia Hollingsworth (Methuen, Mass.) made four saves in the win.  Payton Conceicao (New Bedford, Mass.) stopped 10 shots for the Corsairs.
