Plymouth State Sails Past Salem State 17-3

SALEM, Mass. – Maddie Hunt (Littleton, Mass.) scored four goals and Julia Donovan (Antrim, N.H.) added three goals and a game-high four assists as Plymouth State cruised past Salem State 17-3 at Alumni Field on Friday evening. The Panthers remain unbeaten at 4-0 while the Vikings even their record at 2-2.

Olivia Croke (Norwell, Mass.) – 3 goals, 1 assist, Tarryn O'Brien (Weymouth, Mass.) – 2 goals, Elle Moshier (Stratford, Conn.), - 2 goals, Amelia Thomas (Hopkinton, N.H.) – 1 goal, Emily Le Do (Portsmouth, R.I.) 1– goal and Devon Mello (Laconia, N.H.) 1- goal,  all scored for Plymouth State.

Mackenzie Schmink (Danvers, Mass.) – 2 goals and Madelynn Plourde (Bennington, N.H.) – 1 goal, were the goal scorers for Salem State. 

Thomas put home the first goal of the game just :11 seconds into the contest. Plourde answered for Salem State, but back-to-back goals by O'Brien and Donovan gave the Panthers a 3-1 first quarter advantage,

Hunt opened the second quarter with consecutive goals, extending the Panthers' lead to 5-1. Following another score by O'Brien, Schmink cut the deficit to 6-2 with a goal. Croke added Plymouth State's fourth goal of the period before Schmink added a man-up goal with 2:49 left, making the halftime score 7-3 in favor of the Panthers.

Plymouth State scored 10 unanswered goals after halftime, outshooting the Vikings 23-3 in the second half. Hunt had two third period goals for the Panthers while Donovan added her second of the game with :33 remaining in the third, putting Plymouth State on top, 13-3. Donovan added another score early in the fourth before the Panthers closed the game with three more goals to win 17-3.

Piper Sherbert (Freeport, Maine) made three saves in the win. Sydney Franz (Pasadena, Md.) stopped 16 shots for the Vikings, who were outshot 43-10 for the game.
