Vikings Pick Up Second Win of the Season, 12-10 Over Lasell

NEWTON, Mass. – Salem State defeated Lasell 12-10 on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference match at Grellier Field. Salem State picks up their second win to improve to 2-1 on the year. The Lasers go to 0-2.

Taylor Sujko, Kaia Hollingsworth and Madelynn Plourde each scored three goals in the victory for Salem State. Suzanne StefanikMackenzie Schmink and Jenna Wells all accounted for one score.

Hollingsworth opened the game with consecutive scores and Wells netted the third Vikings' goal giving Salem State a 3-0 first quarter lead. Sydney Brady answered twice for the Lasers before Chapdelaine tied the contest 3-3 with :09 seconds remaining in the quarter. Each team scored two goals apiece in the second with Sujko and Plourde tallying Salem State's points to create a 5-5 halftime tie.

The Vikings regained the lead as Hollingsworth and Plourde gave Salem State a 7-5 advantage at the 8:28 mark of the third quarter. Lasell closed to within 7-6, but a man-up goal by Sujko increased the margin to two scores. Back-to-back goals by Brady and  Courtney Sobolewski evened the game at 8-8, but once again Salem State reclaimed the lead on a Schmink goal with :52 seconds left in the third. 

The Vikings increased their lead to 11-8 in the fourth, but a goals by Brady and Chapdelaine drew the Lasers to within one goal with 1:51 remaining in the game. However, Plourde iced the game despite a man-advantage by Lasell with just over a minute remaining, making the final 12-10.

Brady had four goals and an assist for the Lasers while Chapdelaine finished with three goals and an assist for the Lasers.

Sydney Franz made nine saves in the win. Devin Zambruno stopped 10 shots for Lasell.
