Simmons Runs Past Salem State

SALEM, Mass. -- Abby Stoller (Wayland, Mass.) scored six goals and added three assists as Simmons rolled to a 17-6 victory over Salem State on Tuesday evening at Alumni Field. The Sharks improve to 2-1 while the Vikings slip to 1-1.

Cameron Richards (Lexington, Mass.) – 2 goals,  Marita Nothacker (Philadelphia, Pa.) – 2 goals, Kat Wood (Chelmsford, Mass.) – 2 goals, Liz Krenicky (Burlington, Conn.) – 1 goal,  Lilly Devitt (Belmont, Mass.) – 1 goal, 2 assists,  Sammi Hogan (Westborough, Mass.) – 1 goal, 3 assists, Leah Manfra (Scarborough, Maine) -1 goal, Maddie Desimio-Maloney, Mass.) – 1 goal all scored for Simmons.

Madelynn Plourde (Bennington, N.H.) – 3 goals, Suzanne Stefanik (Dalton, Mass.) – 1 goal, 1 assist, Mackenzie Schmink (Danvers, Mass.) – 1 goal, Hannah Erickson (Lowell, Mass.) – 1 goal all tallied scores for Salem State.

Simmons scored seven unanswered goals to start the game before Stefanik broke the string with :20 seconds left. However, Wood scored her second of the period right before the buzzer to give Simmons an 8-1 lead. The Sharks added five unanswered goals in the second, scored by five different players to take a 13-1 halftime lead. The Sharks held a commanding 22-7 advantage in shots at the half.

Each team tallied three goals in the third, with Stoller's sixth goal giving the Sharks a 15-4 lead with 1:20 left in the third. Plourde added two goals in the fourth for Salem State, sandwiched around a score by Desimio-Malon, making the final 17-6.

Nicole Elliott (Wayne, N.J.) – made 11 saves in the win while Sydney Franz (Pasadena, Md.) stopped 11 shots in net for the Vikings. Simmons ended the game with a 33-19 advantage in shots.
