Vikings Win Season Opener 20-4 Over Regis

SALEM, Mass.Mackenzie Schmink (Danvers, Mass.) and Madelynn Plourde (Bennington, N.H.) combined for nine goals and three assists as Salem State gave head coach Karen Atkinson her first career in the Vikings' 20-4 victory over Regis Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field. Salem State is now 1-0 on the season while the Pride open the year 0-1.

Taylor Sujko (Revere, Mass.) – 3goals, 5 assists, Suzanne Stefanik (Dalton, Mass.), 2 goals, 4 assists, Kaia Hollingsworth (Methuen, Mass.), 2 goals, Jenna Wells(Revere, Mass.), 2 goals, Megan Parthum (Marblehead, Mass.), 1 goal, 1 assist, Hannah Erickson (Lowell, Mass.), 1 goal, all scored for the Vikings.

Kylee Marley (Westerly, R.I.), 2 goals, Isabella Beane (Marlborough, Mass.), 1 goal and Abbie Doheny (Lunenburg, Mass.), 1 goal, tallied scores for Regis.

The Vikings jumped out to a comfortable first quarter lead as Plourde netted three of Salem State's first seven goals. Wells made the score 8-1 early in the second before Marley answered with the second Regis goal. Sujko connected back-to-back, making the score 10-2 in favor of the Vikings as Salem State added two more goals before the break, making halftime score 12-2.

With a running clock, the Vikings notched four more scores in the third, including  a pair from Schmink to end the quarter leading 16-3.  Hollingsworth tallied another score to open the fourth before Schmink added her fourth and fifth goals of the contest. Beane scored the final Pride goal, making the score 19-4 and Wells potted the final Salem State goal to close the scoring as the Vikings reached the 20-goal mark for the game.

Sydney Franz (Pasadena, Md.) made eight saves to earn her first career victory. Madeline Conover (West Newbury, Mass.) stopped eight shots for Regis in the loss. The Vikings held a 32-16 advantage in shots.
